The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen recently launched a package of projects in the governorate of Marib to bolster medical care and education in Yemen, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday.
The launch of the new projects took place under the patronage of Maj. Gen. Sultan bin Ali Al-Arada, member of the Presidential Leadership Council and governor of Marib.
The projects will equip and rehabilitate the radiology and MRI department at the Marib General Authority Hospital, carry out the second phase of a project to develop and expand the University of Saba Region, and support emergency and critical medical services in Marib.
The MRI scanner supplied by the SDRPY will be the first one in Marib and only the third such machine in Yemen, according to the SPA report.
The first phase of the project to expand the University of Saba Region entailed constructing a 16-classroom building that could accommodate 1,280 study seats and an administrative office building. In the second phase, a building for students and faculty members will be furnished.
Emergency and critical medical services in Marib will be bolstered with the provision, by SDRPY in cooperation with the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, of six fully equipped ambulances, which will help increase the capabilities of hospitals and medical centers in Marib.
SDRPY has supported the health sector in Marib through several projects, including providing 24 medical devices to Kara General Hospital, 27 medical devices to the September 26th Hospital, and 13 medical devices to Marib General Authority Hospital.
These hospitals were also given three fully equipped ambulances, expanding access to and boosting the efficiency of medical services in the governorate, allowing healthcare workers to promptly respond to emergencies.
All these initiatives are part of 34 development projects in various Yemeni governorates.
