Sana'a — UNICEF has unveiled a new nutrition initiative aimed at accelerating efforts to reduce undernutrition among children and vulnerable populations in Yemen. The program, launched in collaboration with global partners, seeks to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis by providing lifesaving nutritional support and implementing long-term solutions to combat malnutrition.

According to UNICEF, the initiative will focus on early prevention, detection, and management of child wasting, a severe form of malnutrition that threatens the health and survival of millions of children in crisis-affected areas. The program will integrate evidence-based strategies to improve food security and ensure access to essential nutrients for children and pregnant women.

UNICEF’s Global Director of Child Nutrition and Development, Dr. Victor Aguayo, emphasized the urgency of tackling malnutrition in Yemen, stating that the initiative represents a critical step in protecting vulnerable children from the devastating effects of food insecurity.

The program is part of a broader effort by UNICEF, the World Food Programme (WFP), and the World Health Organization (WHO) to strengthen nutrition policies and interventions in humanitarian settings. By working closely with local governments and international partners, UNICEF aims to scale up comprehensive nutrition programs that will provide sustainable solutions to Yemen’s malnutrition crisis.
