MASAM Project Clears Over 26,000 Explosive Devices Cleared in Yemen in First Half of 2025

Aden — Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian demining initiative, Project Masam, announced that it successfully removed more than 26,000 explosive devices across several regions of Yemen during the first half of 2025, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance civilian safety and restore access to critical infrastructure.
According to a statement issued by the project's management, the cleared items included landmines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), many of which were planted in residential areas, farmlands, and roads used by civilians.
Project Masam, launched in 2018 and funded by the Saudi government, aims to clear Yemeni territories of explosive remnants of war to reduce casualties and facilitate the return of displaced populations. The project’s teams operate under high-risk conditions and have repeatedly emphasized the evolving sophistication and density of explosive threats.
Since its inception, Project Masam has removed hundreds of thousands of explosives, contributing significantly to humanitarian efforts in the war-torn country.
