Taiz – Hundreds of Yemeni citizens took to the streets of Taiz today in a wave of demonstrations fueled by mounting frustration over deteriorating living conditions and government neglect. 

Protesters blocked major roads, set tires ablaze, and called for urgent action amid a deepening economic crisis.

The protests were sparked by the continued collapse of the Yemeni rial, which recently crossed 2,000 per U.S. dollar, exacerbating inflation and pushing essential goods beyond reach for most families. 

Citizens voiced demands for improved public services—including access to water and electricity—and the immediate disbursement of long-delayed salaries for civil servants and educators.

Signs bearing slogans such as “No food, no future!” and “Where are our rights?” reflected widespread anger. Many demonstrators also demanded the dismissal of local officials, blaming them for corruption and mismanagement.

Some areas experienced partial strikes and acts of civil disobedience, with activists calling for a nationwide escalation if their demands are not met.

While local security forces maintained a watchful presence, the protests remained largely peaceful. No major clashes or arrests were reported as of Monday evening.
