Yemeni Security Forces Seize 70 Kilograms of Hashish in Marib

Māʾrib — Yemeni security forces successfully intercepted a shipment of narcotics believed to originate from Houthi-controlled areas, in a significant operation carried out in the city of Marib.
Authorities confirmed the seizure of approximately 70 kilograms of hashish, which was hidden inside a vehicle attempting to pass through a security checkpoint east of the city. The operation comes as part of a broader effort by Yemeni law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in conflict-affected regions.
Security officials revealed that the confiscated drugs were destined for distribution in government-controlled territories. Preliminary investigations suggest the smugglers were affiliated with networks operating from areas under Houthi influence, where lawlessness has facilitated the growth of illegal trade.
The individuals involved have been detained, and legal proceedings are underway. No official statement has yet been made regarding the identities of the suspects.
Government sources emphasized that this bust reflects the growing challenges posed by transnational and internal drug trafficking across Yemen, exacerbated by ongoing conflict and weakened border control.
