Yemen : Seven Pharmaceutical Companies Shut Down in Marib for Violating Reduced Pricing Regulations

MARIB— Local authorities in Marib Governorate have announced the closure of seven pharmaceutical companies found to be in violation of newly implemented pricing regulations, which were introduced in response to the recent improvement in the value of the Yemeni rial.
The crackdown comes as part of a broader campaign to ensure compliance with updated price lists issued by the Ministry of Health and the Supreme Authority for Medicines. These lists reflect the strengthened purchasing power of the local currency and aim to make essential medicines more affordable for citizens.
“The decision to shut down these companies was made after repeated warnings and inspections revealed their refusal to adjust prices in line with the official reductions,” said a spokesperson from the Health Office in Marib.
Authorities emphasized that the closures are temporary and that companies may resume operations once they comply with the revised pricing standards. The move has been welcomed by many residents, who have long struggled with inflated drug prices amid economic instability.
The Yemeni rial has seen a notable recovery in recent weeks, prompting government institutions to revise pricing across several sectors. Officials say further inspections will continue to ensure fair access to healthcare and prevent exploitation in the pharmaceutical market.
