UN Receives Only $10 Million for Yemen Aid Plan in October
Sana’a – The United Nations has announced that it received approximately $10 million in humanitarian funding for Yemen during the month of October, a figure that falls drastically short of the country’s urgent needs.
The contribution represents a fraction of the $2.71 billion required under the 2025 Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan, which remains less than 50% funded as the year nears its end.
In its latest humanitarian snapshot, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned that millions of Yemenis continue to face life-threatening conditions, including displacement, food insecurity, and lack of access to basic services.
Despite the relative calm following the de facto truce, the humanitarian situation remains dire due to economic collapse, climate shocks, and persistent protection risks.
"The humanitarian response in Yemen is severely underfunded. We urge donors to step up their support to prevent further deterioration and to ensure that life-saving assistance reaches those most in need," the UN said in its statement.
The $10 million received in October came from a limited number of donors and was directed toward critical sectors such as food aid, health services, and emergency shelter.
However, aid agencies warn that without sustained and predictable funding, operations may be scaled back, leaving vulnerable populations exposed.
The UN and its partners are currently targeting assistance to over 18 million people across Yemen, including internally displaced persons, conflict-affected communities, and those suffering from malnutrition and disease outbreaks.
The funding gap of over $2 billion threatens to undermine these efforts and delay recovery initiatives.
Humanitarian actors have called on the international community to prioritize Yemen in global aid allocations, especially as competing crises risk diverting attention and resources.
The UN emphasized that every dollar counts in saving lives and restoring dignity in one of the world’s most protracted emergencies.
