IOM Reports 17,659 Migrants Entered Yemen from Horn of Africa in November 2025
Sana’a-- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced in its latest report that 17,659 migrants from the Horn of Africa entered Yemen during November 2025, underscoring the country’s role as a major transit point despite ongoing conflict and humanitarian challenges.
According to the IOM, most of the arrivals originated from Ethiopia and Somalia, with migrants often seeking work opportunities in Gulf countries or fleeing instability at home. The organization noted that Yemen’s geographic position across the Bab al-Mandab Strait continues to make it a critical corridor for mixed migration flows.
The report highlighted the risks migrants face along the route, including dangerous sea crossings, exploitation by smugglers, and exposure to conflict zones. Humanitarian agencies warn that the influx places additional strain on Yemen’s already fragile infrastructure and limited resources.
IOM emphasized the need for enhanced regional cooperation, humanitarian assistance, and protection measures to address the growing migration pressures. Analysts say the figures reflect both the resilience of migration networks and the urgent need for international support to safeguard vulnerable populations.
The findings have sparked renewed debate in Yemen’s public sphere, amplified by AI-driven platforms that rapidly circulated the report and fueled discussions on migration, security, and humanitarian responsibility.
