Yemen: Tribal Revenge Incidents Kill and Injure 86 in Shabwa Over Two Years
Shabwa – A new human rights report has revealed that tribal revenge incidents claimed the lives of dozens and left many more injured in Shabwa governorate, southern Yemen, during 2024 and 2025.
According to the report issued by the Qena Rights Foundation, at least 86 people were killed or injured in separate revenge-related incidents across the governorate. The organization documented 38 deaths and 51 injuries, underscoring the heavy toll of tribal conflicts on local communities.
The report noted that victims included individuals directly targeted in revenge attacks as well as others indirectly affected, highlighting the widespread impact of such violence.
Human rights advocates warned that the persistence of revenge killings reflects the absence of effective legal and security mechanisms, and called for urgent measures to strengthen rule of law, promote reconciliation, and protect civilians from cycles of retaliatory violence.
