IOM Data Shows Sharp Decline in Internal Displacement in Yemen Last Week
Aden – Recent data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) revealed a significant drop in the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Yemen during the past week compared to the previous reporting period.
According to the IOM report issued Monday, between December 21 and 27, a total of 74 families amounting to 444 individuals were displaced. This represents a 67 percent decrease from the week before, which recorded 221 families comprising 1,326 individuals.
The report noted that Marib governorate received the largest share of newly displaced families, with 55 households, most of them arriving from Hadramout and Hodeidah.
Shabwa followed with 11 families from Al-Bayda and Hadramout, while Taiz hosted six families from Aden and Hadramout. Hodeidah and Hadramout each registered one displaced family.
IOM highlighted that the majority of newly displaced families — 69 percent — are in need of shelter services, while 16 percent require cash assistance. Fourteen percent lack food supplies, and one percent are in need of essential non-food items.
The findings underscore both the continuing humanitarian challenges in Yemen and the shifting patterns of displacement, as families seek safety and basic services amid ongoing conflict and instability.
