7,000 Tons of Flour Exported from Egypt’s Port Tawfiq to Yemen Amid

Aden — A major shipment of 7,000 tons of wheat flour departed from Port Tawfiq, one of Egypt’s key Red Sea ports, bound for Yemen, where millions continue to face severe food insecurity due to prolonged conflict and economic collapse.
The export operation was coordinated by Egyptian grain suppliers in partnership with regional logistics firms, and is part of ongoing efforts to bolster Yemen’s commercial and humanitarian food imports. The flour is expected to be distributed across several Yemeni governorates, including Aden, Taiz, and Al Hudaydah, where local bakeries and aid organizations have reported critical shortages.
Officials at Port Tawfiq confirmed that the shipment was loaded over a 48-hour period and met international quality and safety standards. The flour is intended for both commercial resale and humanitarian distribution, depending on the receiving entities in Yemen.
Yemen remains one of the world’s most food-insecure countries, with over 17 million people in need of food assistance, according to UN agencies. The country’s reliance on imported grain and flour has grown in recent years due to the collapse of domestic agriculture and disruptions in supply chains caused by conflict and climate-related disasters.
Egypt has emerged as a key supplier of wheat and flour to Yemen, ranking among the top exporters alongside Turkey and Oman. The latest shipment reflects Cairo’s continued role in supporting regional food security and humanitarian relief efforts.
Logistics experts say the Red Sea route from Port Tawfiq to Yemeni ports offers a relatively fast and secure corridor for bulk food shipments, despite recent concerns over maritime safety due to regional tensions.
The arrival of the flour shipment is expected to ease pressure on local markets, stabilize bread prices, and support aid operations targeting vulnerable populations. Humanitarian organizations have welcomed the move, calling for continued international cooperation to sustain food flows into Yemen.
