Yemen : Report Reveals Alarming Surge in Houthi Violations Against Civilians in Al-Hudaydah

Aden — A newly released human rights report has uncovered a sharp escalation in abuses committed by Houthi militias in Yemen’s Al-Hudaydah governorate, documenting over 957 violations against civilians during the first seven months of 2025.
The report, compiled by local monitoring groups and verified by independent observers, details a wide range of violations including arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, torture, recruitment of child soldiers, and targeted attacks on residential areas.
Victims include women, children, and elderly civilians, with many cases involving prolonged detention and denial of access to legal counsel.
Human rights advocates warn that the scale and severity of the violations reflect a deteriorating security environment and a systematic pattern of repression.
“This level of abuse is not random—it points to an organized campaign of intimidation and control,” said a spokesperson for the monitoring coalition.
The report also highlights the use of public institutions and schools for military purposes, as well as restrictions on humanitarian access and media coverage.
Several journalists and aid workers were reportedly harassed or detained while attempting to document conditions in the region.
International organizations have called for urgent accountability measures and renewed pressure on all parties to respect international humanitarian law.
The United Nations has yet to issue a formal response to the findings, though diplomatic sources suggest the report may be raised in upcoming Security Council discussions on Yemen.
