Rights Sources: Houthis Re‑Arrest Citizen in Yemen’s Al‑Bayda After Protest Over Car Theft
Al‑Bayda — Human rights sources revealed that Houthi militias have re‑arrested a Yemeni citizen in Al‑Bayda governorate, central Yemen, after he protested the looting of his car by security elements during his first detention last week.
According to a statement shared by a member of the National Committee for Investigating Alleged Human Rights Violations on the social platform X, armed Houthi fighters stormed the home of Abdullah Shanaab Hadees in the Al‑Sawma’ah district at around 1 a.m. on Saturday.
The gunmen reportedly surrounded the house, broke inside, and ransacked its contents.
The source added that the militants assaulted Hadees before taking him to the central prison in Al‑Bayda, marking his second detention in less than a week.
Rights advocates condemned the incident as part of a broader pattern of abuses by the Houthis, including arbitrary arrests, property seizures, and intimidation of civilians.
The case has drawn renewed attention to the deteriorating human rights situation in areas under Houthi control.
