Yemen : Fierce Clashes Erupt Between Southern Forces and Houthis in Lahj
Lahj — Heavy fighting broke out Tuesday evening between Southern Armed Forces and Houthi militias along the Tor al-Baha front, west of Lahj province in southern Yemen. The confrontation reportedly involved the use of drones by the Houthis.
According to military sources, the clashes erupted after Houthi fighters attempted to infiltrate positions held by Southern forces. The attack was repelled, resulting in significant losses for the Houthis in both personnel and equipment.
In an official statement, the Southern Armed Forces said: “Our units in the Fourth Hazm Brigade thwarted an assault launched by Houthi militias in the Tor al-Baha front. The attack was met with firm resistance, and our forces dealt precisely and decisively with the sources of enemy fire, leading to the early failure of the offensive and confirmed losses among Houthi elements.”
The incident highlights the ongoing volatility along frontlines in southern Yemen, where Southern forces have also intensified operations against Al-Qaeda cells in recent weeks.
Analysts note that the dual confrontations reflect the complex security challenges facing the region, as both insurgent and extremist groups seek to expand their influence.
