Aden -- The European Union’s naval mission, Operation Atalanta (EUNAVFOR), announced that it successfully ensured the safe arrival of a commercial vessel carrying wheat to Aden port in southern Yemen.

According to the mission’s statement, naval units provided protection and escort for the ship through high-risk waters, safeguarding its passage against potential threats. 

The delivery is considered vital for Yemen, where millions face food insecurity amid ongoing conflict and economic hardship.

Operation Atalanta, established to combat piracy and protect maritime traffic in the Gulf of Aden and the wider Indian Ocean, has increasingly played a role in securing humanitarian and commercial shipments bound for Yemen. 

Officials emphasized that the mission’s support reflects the EU’s commitment to maintaining maritime security and facilitating the flow of essential goods to the country.

Local observers noted that the arrival of the wheat shipment is expected to ease pressure on food supplies in Aden and surrounding areas, underscoring the importance of continued international efforts to protect trade routes and humanitarian deliveries.
