Yemen’s STC Launches Military Operations to Pursue Al-Qaeda in Abyan
Abyan — The Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Yemen announced on Monday the launch of wide-scale military operations in Abyan province, aimed at pursuing Al-Qaeda elements and reinforcing security and stability in the region.
A statement from the southern armed forces said the operation, named “Al-Hasm” (The Decisive), is a continuation of the earlier “Arrows of the East” campaign.
It seeks to counter coordinated movements between the Houthi group and Al-Qaeda, which threaten Abyan’s security.
The STC called on local tribes and residents to support the military units involved, stressing that the operations are intended to protect civilians and ensure stability in southern Yemen.
STC President Aidarous al-Zubaidi praised the role of the Arab Coalition, led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, in confronting terrorist threats.
He emphasized that the operation marks an important step in strengthening regional security and safeguarding international navigation.
